MFA in Writing

Slovenia Summer Residencies

Writers enrolled in the MFA in Writing program may choose to attend a summer residency in Slovenia, in lieu of Vermont. The Summer 2015 Residency took place June 26-July 5, 2015.

The residency is open to all but those entering their first semester, including alumni and postgraduate writers. The group typically consists of 12–15 people, including 2-3 MFA in Writing faculty. The time in Slovenia is split between the small medieval town of Skofja Loka and the capital, Ljubljana.

Students participated in workshops and heard lectures and readings that relate to the rich literary landscape in Slovenia. While in Skofja Loka the group traveled to visit Dante’s Cave, Duino Castle, the Kobarid Museum, and Lake Bled as well as enjoying time writing. In Ljubljana, students had the opportunity to spend time with visiting writers of different genres as well as visiting museums, cultural and literary sites.
