Profile

Higher education administrator, visual artist, and entrepreneur best describe Angela Franklin.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, the United Arab Emirates, Senegal, Nigeria, Marshall Islands, and the US are just some of the places where she has worked in higher education in the implementation or further development of Student Recruitment, Admissions, and Student Affairs departments with a focus on strategic goal setting, program development, marketing, achieving deliverables and meeting organizational outcomes.

Angela Franklin-Faye has exhibited her works in the US and abroad. Her international experience has resulted in a body of work that celebrates and chronicles The Diaspora globally. At present, she has been commissioned to create a work of art for Acres of Ancestry Initiative/Black Agrarian Fund a multidisciplinary, cooperative nonprofit ecosystem rooted in Black ecocultural traditions and textile arts to regenerate custodial landownership, ecological stewardship, and food and fiber economies in the South.  In 2020, she was commissioned to create four works of art that are now part of the university’s permanent collection as an Artist-in-Residence with The Stained Glass Initiative (SGI) program at Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. Xavier’s historical connections to slavery were the impetus for SGI and the initiative serves as the umbrella to establish racial truth and contribute to repairing healing and reconciliation.

My Soul to Keep was her most recent exhibit featured in the DakArt Biennale 2022. Other recent exhibitions included Filam(a)nt Exhibition at Fondation Blachere Art Centre in France and “Bending Culture: Inside Out, Understanding Iconoclasm in an Era of Multiculturalism Exhibition”, London at Hoxton 253 Art Space. In addition, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, The Art Hub-Abu Dhabi, The Renwick Gallery – Smithsonian Institution, Ohio Craft Museum, and Musee Boribana – Dakar are just a few of the spaces that have featured her work.  Works by Franklin-Faye are in the corporate collections of Atlanta Life Insurance Company, The NationsBank, Arco Chemical, and Household Finance.

As an entrepreneur, Franklin is the founder/director of Chez Alpha Books in Dakar, Senegal-a multicultural bookstore also offering a lending library and serving as an academic resource center.
