Join the VCFA community on the College Hall Green (36 College Street Montpelier, VT) on Tuesday December 6th for our annual Illumination Night! We’ll light our campus and enjoy treats, hot chocolate, and live music in the College Hall Gallery. The event starts at 5:30pm. All friends and families are welcome—let’s gather to kick off the 2022 holiday season with light!

Plus, this year we’re excited to incorporate live music into our annual Illumination Night celebration! We look forward to hosting The Sklarkestra Trio in the College Hall Gallery.

Meet the Band

The Sklarkestra Trio is a central Vermont-based jazz ensemble featuring Bruce Sklar (piano), Jeremy Hill (bass), and Annie West Sklar (saxophone & vocals). With a repertoire ranging from Ellington to Gershwin to Silver to Mingus to Norah Jones to original compositions by Bruce, this small but mighty group can create a sound much larger than its parts.

Bruce Sklar is one of the most widely known musicians in Vermont. He has been active as a jazz composer, pianist/keyboardist, and educator in Vermont since 1975. His style as a highly accomplished jazz pianist and composer is immediately recognizable. He is currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Music Technology at Harwood Union High School.

Jeremy Hill plays bass with Bruce Sklar and his “Sklarkestra” ensemble and is a rhythm section regular for many of Central VT’s busiest groups including those led by Ray Vega, Brian McCarthy, James Harvey, Alex Stewart, Marty Fogel, and many more. Jeremy teaches music in all of the Mad River Valley elementary schools.

Annie West Sklar is a saxophonist, vocalist, and composer working in jazz, pop, and soul. She has performed with bands of many genres in New England and Colorado, and has a special love for jazz, funk, and soul.
