MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults

Summer Residency in England

Students seeking an international experience have the opportunity to attend the program’s summer residency abroad in Bath, England. This alternative residency is open to students entering their second semester or above, as well as alumni.

Summer Residency BathIn addition to VCFA workshops and presentations, highlights include shared lectures and readings with Bath Spa University’s MA in Writing for Young People program (featuring acclaimed faculty David Almond and Lucy Christopher) as well as many opportunities to explore the literary and historic sites in Bath.

Students attend a day in Oxford where they dine at Exeter College’s High Table (featured in the Harry Potter films), enjoy a historical tour of children’s literature at Oxford University—inspiration for Lewis Carroll, J. R. R. Tolkien, E. Nesbitt, and J. K. Rowling—and spend the afternoon with a literary legend, such as previous guests Philip Pullman and Meg Rosoff.
