Tariku Shiferaw (b. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) explores mark-making in order to address the physical and metaphysical spaces of painting and societal structures. Shiferaw moved to Nairobi, Kenya, with his family when he was nine, and then immigrated to the United States shortly thereafter.

He was raised in Los Angeles and received his BFA from the University of Southern California in 2007. Shiferaw received his MFA from Parsons School of Design in 2015. Recent exhibitions include the 2017 Whitney Biennial as a part of Occupy Museums’ Debtfair and a solo exhibition, One of These Black Boys, at Anthony Philip Fine Art in Brooklyn. Shiferaw currently lives and works in New York.
