COMMUNITY NEWS: Vespa, A New Operatic Collaboration
Join the VCFA MFA in Music Composition community for Vespa, A Girl and Her Pet Wasp, an opera in four acts.
The story of Vespa follows a girl and her pet wasp as they lead various friends on a journey into the wondrous depths of the world of insects. Five VCFA MFA in Music Composition voices came together to engineer this upcoming performance:
Music and Libretto: Don DiNicola, Music Composition Core Faculty
Music Director: Robert Frankenberry, Music Composition Residency Faculty
Conductor: Roger Zahab, Music Composition Faculty Co-Chair
Engraver: Devin Barone (MC ‘20), Music Composition Assistant Director
Special Thanks: Trudy Chan, Black Tea Music, Music Composition Residency Faculty
Vespa will host two performances in 2025 at The Old Stone House of Brooklyn on Saturday, April 12 at 5:30pm and Sunday, April 13 at 4:00pm, with a suggested dress code of “your favorite insect or flower.”
The MFA in Music Composition program encourages anyone in the area to attend. As Don DiNicola says, this performance is a “great way for the [VCFA] community to see what’s possible when we work together.” Plus, there might be an opportunity for audience participation.
