Kathi Appelt is the bestselling, award-winning author of over 50 books for young readers.

Her debut middle-grade novel, The Underneath, was a National Book Award Finalist and a Newbery Honor Book. In addition, it received the Pen USA Award. Her middle-grade novel, The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp, was also a National Book Award Finalist. Kathi’s first young adult novel, Angel Thieves, was published in 2019. She makes her home in College Station, Texas, and is a former faculty chair of the MFA program in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
