Announcing the new Art More Than Ever podcast
VCFA is kicking off a new podcast featuring lengthy interviews with faculty, alumnx, current students, and visiting artists.
Titled Art More Than Ever, the podcast will showcase the breadth of artists VCFA brings to its campus through its nine academic programs.
“Art More Than Ever really highlights the best of VCFA. Our artists, writers, designers, musicians, and filmmakers all have stories to tell and experiences to share. These remarkable interviews get to the heart of what drives our artists and what makes VCFA so extraordinary,” said VCFA President Thomas Christopher Greene.
Art More Than Ever is hosted by Erica Heilman, a well-known Vermont radio and podcast producer. Heilman also produces Rumble Strip, a podcast that features vivid stories about everyday lives. The show airs monthly on Vermont Public Radio, and her work has aired on NPR’s Day to Day, Hearing Voices, SOUNDPRINT, KCRW’s UnFictional, and on major public radio affiliates across the country. Prior to her work in audio, Erica worked in documentary television in New York City. She produced programming for WNET, HBO, and ABC News.
Heilman’s background in journalism and in the art of the podcast has led to deep and meaningful interviews, all conducted within the warmth of VCFA’s Gary Library.
In the first episode, Heilman interviews poet Matthew Dickman, faculty member in VCFA’s MFA in Writing and MFA in Writing & Publishing program. Dickman talks about how he creates his poetry and how a difficult childhood in Portland, Ore. has shaped his work.
In forthcoming episodes, Heilman speaks with MFA in Film faculty member Till Schauder about how deep a documentary director must get with his subject; MFA in Graphic Design student Adam DelMarcelle about how art and design can bring demanding attention to the nation’s opioid crisis; and MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults alumnx Cori McCarthy (’11) about their approaches to writing for the young adult genre.
Scott Barkan, a 2016 alumnx of VCFA’s MFA in Music Composition program, has written and recorded new music for “Art More Than Ever.” Barkan has recently released his third album, “Good at Goodbye,” available on Bandcamp.
“Art More Than Ever” will release an episode every six weeks on VCFA’s podcast page. Looks for announcements on VCFA’s social media channels.
