T. Geronimo Johnson wins $50K Simpson Family Literary Prize

MFA in Writing visiting faculty member T. Geronimo Johnson has won the $50,000 Simpson Family Literary Prize. 

T. Geronimo JohnsonThe Simpson Family Literary Prize is a new award given to writers in the middle of their careers. Johnson has written two novels, Hold it ’Til It Hurts, a finalist for the 2013 PEN/Faulkner Award, and Welcome to Braggsville, long-listed for the 2015 National Book Award. 

Johnson has been a visiting faculty member at VCFA since 2015. He’ll be on campus later this month for our upcoming Novel Retreat. 

The Simpson Family Literary Prize is overseen by the Simpson Family Literary Project, a private/public partnership of the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation and the English Department at UC Berkeley. The project is named in honor of Barclay and Sharon Simpson and their family, philanthropists who help artists, students and underserved children.
