Yoon Soo Lee

A Professor of Art and Design at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth since 2001, Yoon Soo Lee is a practicing graphic designer, exhibiting artist and published scholar. She was born and raised in Seoul, Korea and has been in the States since the early 1990s.

Yoon Soo’s practice moves around three core areas of study: how to be a mindful educator, how to work in dialogue cross-discipline, and how to create art and design that is based on self-knowledge. These areas of study gather around the idea of relationships and dialogue. Yoon Soo works with engineers and psychologists to study interventions that promote innovation and creativity in the classroom. She also works with scientists to create visual stimuli tests for persons with severe brain trauma. Yoon Soo works with other educators to study the role and practice of critique in the classroom. These investigations have led to grants from the National Institute of Health, they have been shared during annual conferences such as the Cognitive Science Society and they been published in Design Principles and Practices: An International Journal.

Yoon Soo studied at Seoul National University where she received her BFA and MFA, and she also studied at Western Michigan University where she received her second MFA in graphic design.
