Profile

Described by the New York Times as an ensemble possessing an “edgy, unflagging energy,” Talujon has been mesmerizing audiences since 1990. For well over two decades, Talujon has committed itself to the growth of contemporary percussion music through diverse performance, commissioning, educational, and outreach activities.

Michael Lipsey

Percussionist Michael Lipsey has performed at festivals in Bali, London, Lisbon, Madrid, Berlin, Mexico City, Taipei, Macao, Tokyo, La Jolla, New York, Moscow, Bogota and France. Michael is the founding member of Talujon Percussion and has also performed with the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, Steve Reich, Bang on a Can, Tan Dun, New York New Music Ensemble and Riverside Symphony. He has performed throughout the world and given master classes at numerous schools including the Juilliard School of Music and California School of the Arts. Michael is a full-time Professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music at CUNY, Queens College and Director of the Percussion Program and the New Music Ensemble.

Bill Solomon

Bill Solomon is a percussionist based in NYC who plays regularly with Ensemble Signal and ensemble vigil, and as a guest with Alarm Will Sound, Talujon Percussion, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, [sound icon], Ludovico Ensemble, Callithumpian Consort and others. He has worked with many leading composers, including Pierre Boulez, Steve Reich, Helmut Lachenmann, Terry Riley, Charles Wuorinen, Brian Ferneyhough, Hilda Paredes, Chaya Czernowin, Donnacha Dennehey, as well as collaborating and premiering works by many younger composers.

He has performed at many venues and festivals including: Tanglewood, Lincoln Center Festival, Miller Theatre, Guggenheim Museum NYC, June in Buffalo, EMPAC, (Le) Poisson Rouge, The Stone, Lucerne Festival, Bang on a Can Marathon, Missouri New Music Festival, Sebago-Long Lake Chamber Music Festival, Tune In Festival, HOT!Fest, Percussive Arts Society International Conference, BEAMS Electronic Music Marathon, Music with a View, Pixelerations and others.

Matt Ward

Matt Ward is dedicated to performing and commissioning new music and has been cited by the New York Times as “a fine soloist”. With a particular interest in chamber music, he is a principal member with the Argento Chamber Ensemble, Talujon, the American Modern Ensemble, Associated Solo Artists and is also the co-founder of the percussion trio Timetable. Dr. Ward also performs regularly with groups such as the Albany Symphony, SEM Ensemble, The Orchestra of the League of Composers, Sequitor and the Riverside Symphony. Dr. Ward holds a BM degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a MM and DMA degree from SUNY Stony Brook. He is on faculty at Queens College, The Aaron Copland School of Music and Brooklyn College.
