Profile

Mario Ontiveros is an art critic, curator and art historian whose research interests include how critical art practices respond to geopolitical challenges, such as global capitalism, deindustrialization, immigration, and intolerance; how collaborative processes create spaces for self-organizing, solidarity, and conviviality; and, how cultural production organized around impermanence can initiate critical public dialogue as well as facilitate political mobilization. Along with serving on the editorial board of X-TRA Contemporary Art Quarterly and as a board member for the Social and Public Art Resource Center in Los Angeles, he is also an assistant professor of art history in the Department of Art at CSUN. He received his PhD from UCLA.
