VCFA Graphic Design Alumnx Recognized for Poster Design and Typography
Throughout the year, VCFA alumnx from across our six MFA programs share their news with our community through our Share Your News form. In the spring of 2023, we received two submissions from VCFA Graphic Design alumnx who have been recognized for their work.
Dannell MacIlwraith (GD ‘16) received a Bronze Award for Experimental Poster Design in the UDA Annual Int’l Design Competition for the piece “Panic Pile.”
Monique Ortman (GD ‘22) was awarded the TDC69 Certificate of Typographic Excellence: Typography by the Type Directors Club for ᎧᎹᎹ “Kamama” – Weavable Cherokee Syllabary Typeface. This typeface is inspired by and designed for use in Cherokee rivercane basket and mat weaving, as well as digitally. Kamama also features “weavable” storytelling glyphs from traditional stories. This typeface was developed while Ortman completed an MFA at VCFA, and the typeface aims to keep Cherokee language alive through traditional crafts and digitally.
Congratulations to our award-winning Graphic Design alumnx! Alumnx, send us your recent news at any time through the Share Your News form. Interested in the MFA in Graphic Design program? Visit our program page to learn more.
