VCFA Film Alumnx Jeff Bemiss (F ‘19) Receives a Peabody Award
In the spring of 2023, VCFA Film alumnx Jeff Bemiss (F ‘19) received a 2022 Peabody Award for his documentary MISSING IN BROOKS COUNTY (co-directed by Lisa Molomont).
The Peabody Awards, as stated by the organization, “…honors excellence in storytelling that reflects the social issues and the emerging voices of our day.” The Peabody Awards are one of the oldest electronic media awards in the United States, and only 30 awards are given every year in categories such as entertainment, documentary, news, podcasts, and more.
Released in October of 2020, MISSING IN BROOKS COUNTY follows two families searching for their loved ones who crossed the US/Mexico border and went missing in one of the most notoriously dangerous US interior checkpoints. Since its release, the documentary has received over a dozen nominations and awards.
In 2021, VCFA interviewed Bemiss about the making of MISSING IN BROOKS COUNTY for our annual alumnx magazine, in residence. You can read the story behind MISSING IN BROOKS COUNTY, as it appeared in the magazine, by clicking here.
