The MFA in Music Composition program at VCFA offers students the opportunity to write across multiple genres or focus deeply in one, guided by expert faculty composers. Characterized by twice-a-year weeklong residencies in Vermont coupled with six-month semesters of individualized mentored study, the low-residency model balances the vitality of an immersive musical community with intensive focus on each student’s specific needs and aspirations.

World class musicians round out the community, coming to campus each residency. Jennifer Choi, Yves Dharamraj, and Stephen Gosling, all acclaimed New York-based musicians, have come to VCFA multiple times to rehearse, perform, and record students’ music.
