COMMUNITY NEWS: “Music For Winter” VCFA Faculty & Alumnx Concert
On December 19, 2024, VCFA MFA in Music Composition Faculty Co-Chair, composer, and violinist Roger Zahab and VCFA resident pianist and residency faculty Robert Frankenberry will be joined by distinguished guest violist David Cerutti in “Music for Winter,” a concert of music by VCFA MFA in Music Composition alumnx and faculty.
VCFA composers from across graduation years and styles will come together in community at this open-door event. Featured will be the premiere of Ken Topham’s (MC ‘24) “Our Elastic Hearts Dancing Closer Still” along with recent music by Megan DiGeorgio (MC ‘20), John Fitz Rogers (MFA in Music Composition faculty), Reed Robins (MC ‘14), Aaron Wyanski (MC ‘15), and Roger Zahab, and will also include guest composer Gilbert Galindo’s Sonata for viola and piano.
Of the event, and the VCFA community, Zahab says:
“These composers are all cherished friends—both faculty and graduates of our program. Some are works I’ve played a few times and am happy to revive, and others were either written for me a while ago or have been newly composed for me. These altogether present a wide range of styles but each composer has written in their own distinctive voice with great imagination and care for these acoustic instruments.
Our community represents the very best in creative musical companionships and this concert should be a great opportunity for members of our VCFA community to gather in New York City. I’m sure there will be lots of catching up after the concert!”
The concert will take place December 19, 2024 at the Opera America Rehearsal Hall—330 Seventh Avenue (between 28 & 29th Streets) 7th floor, New York City, NY, 10001—starting at 8:00pm ET. Admission is free and donations will be accepted at the door.
