MFA in Writing announces its lineup of Visiting Writers for the Winter Residency
Visiting writers for the December 28 – January 8 MFA in Writing residency include a New York Times bestselling author, a National Book Award finalist, a MacArthur “Genius Grant” fellow, and an emerging alumna fiction writer. Each one will give a free, public reading in the Chapel in College Hall.
December 30, 7pm: Visiting Creative Nonfiction Writer Terese Marie Mailhot
Mailhot is from Seabird Island Band. She is The New York Times bestselling author of Heart Berries: A Memoir. Her work is featured in The Los Angeles Times, Guernica, Longreads, Medium, Granta, Pacific Standard, and elsewhere. She has appeared on PBS Newshour, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, NPR Weekend Edition, and elsewhere. Read more.
January 3, 7pm: Visiting Fiction Writer Carmen Maria Machado
Machado’s debut short story collection, Her Body and Other Parties, was a finalist for the National Book Award, the Kirkus Prize, LA Times Book Prize Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction, and others. In 2018, The New York Times listed Her Body and Other Parties as a member of “The New Vanguard,” one of “15 remarkable books by women that are shaping the way we read and write fiction in the 21st century.” Read more.
January 4, 7pm: Visiting Poet Terrance Hayes
Hayes is a teacher and student of poetry. His most recent publications include American Sonnets for My Past And Future Assassin (Penguin 2018),and To Float In The Space Between: Drawings and Essays in Conversation with Etheridge Knight (Wave, 2018). Read more.
January 5, 7pm: Visiting Alumna Fiction Writer Liara Tamani
Tamani is the author of Calling My Name, a PEN America Literary Award finalist and SCBWI Golden Kite Award honoree. Liara’s forthcoming novel is All the Things We Never Knew. She holds an MFA in writing from Vermont College and a BA from Duke University. Read more.
