Profile

A native of Montpelier and daughter of two educators, Katie Gustafson grew up with the College on the hill. She left Vermont in 1990 to attend Harvard University, where she played varsity basketball and majored in biological anthropology.

After graduating with honors, she traveled throughout the United States with her sister, and eventually settled in New York City. Her career has always been in the realm of education. In NYC, she worked for the Marymount School. Returning to Vermont she worked for the Montpelier public school system in special education. Then for five years, while living in Germany, she ran a kindergarten afterschool program.

Returning to her Vermont roots in 2002, she went to work for VCFA (then Vermont College). She began as the Assistant Director of the MFA in Writing program, and over the years has held a range of positions, including Assistant Director of Admissions, Program Director of the MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults, Bursar, Controller, Vice President for Campus Planning, and now Vice President for Finance & Administration. Her greatest joys, beyond the job that she loves, are her family: her husband Cory, her children Sophie (14) and Calvin (12), and Hobbes (5, rescue hound/lab).
