Charles Bunting (Shelburne, VT) is a Consulting Partner (retired) with Storbeck Search, an executive search firm in higher education.
Chuck and his family moved to Vermont in 1985, and he worked as Chancellor of the Vermont State Colleges for the next fifteen years. During this period, the colleges substantially expanded enrollments and academic program directions, and established new forms of access to better reach and serve Vermonters and their communities. During his prior career, he served in senior leadership roles at Vassar College and in the US Department of Education, including his role as one of the founders of the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), which supported a wide range of new directions and innovations. Prior to completing a doctorate in education, he also taught at a historically Black college in Alabama and in the Boston Public Schools.
In recent years, he served as a trustee or chair on the governing boards of Hampton University, United Educators, and the Visiting Nurses Association of Chittenden/Grand Isle Counties. As Chancellor, he served on state boards and commissions addressing issues such as school finance, workforce education, and corrections reform. He also chaired the national association of state higher education officers and served on the boards of several other national organizations in education.
