The MFA in Graphic Design Program at VCFA is excited to host a special virtual book talk with designer, educator, and advocate Omari Souza as he shares insights from his forthcoming book, Design Against Racism. Drawing from his extensive work in design and social justice, Souza explores how creative practices can both perpetuate and dismantle systemic inequities. This conversation will highlight the role of designers in addressing bias, amplifying marginalized voices, and envisioning more inclusive futures.

Souza, known for his founding of the State of Black Design (SOBD) and impactful teaching, brings a powerful perspective on how design intersects with race, culture, and community. Look forward to an evening that takes a first look at the themes shaping Design Against Racism. A Q&A with Souza and VCFA Alumnx Shannon Doronio Chavez will expand the dialogue about equity-driven approaches to design practice.
