Winter 2018 Piano Trio / Visiting Ensemble

Rowell

Winter 2018 Piano Trio: Mary Rowell, violin; David Russell, cello; and Geoffrey Burleson, piano.

Mary Rowell, violin

Considered by critics to be one of the most interesting and exciting performers on the contemporary scene today, the innovative violinist Mary Rowell cannot be classified. Known for her work with the Grammy Award® winning Tango Project, the indie band The Silos, and pop icon Joe Jackson, she has carved an indelible place in the contemporary classical music world with the post-classical quartet ETHEL of which she co-founded. Mary has performed, recorded and premiered countless scores of today’s composers as soloist and chamber musician.

David Russell, cello

Cellist David Russell is a busy Boston area performer who has also toured extensively in France, Germany, Italy and England. He maintains a vigorous performance schedule both as soloist and as collaborator in the U.S. and Europe. A strong advocate and performer of new music, he has performed with such ensembles as Phantom Arts Ensemble for American Music, Dinosaur Annex, Collage New Music, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Music on the Edge, AUROS Group for New Music, Firebird Ensemble, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players, and the Fromm Foundation Players at Harvard. He is a founding member of Furious Band, an ensemble devoted to the exploration and performance of works by young composers.

Geoffrey Burleson, piano

Geoffrey Burleson, pianist, has performed to wide acclaim throughout Europe and North America, and is equally active as a recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician and jazz performer. The New York Times has hailed his solo performances as "vibrant" and "compelling," and has praised his "command, projection of rhapsodic qualities without loss of rhythmic vigor, and appropriate sense of spontaneity and fetching colors." He currently performs as a principal pianist with the American Modern Ensemble, Boston Musica Viva, and the Tribeca New Music Festival, as well as IMPetus, a dynamic trio featuring vocalist Maria Tegzes and guitarist Dave "Knife" Fabris. He is also a member of Princeton University's Richardson Chamber Players.
