MFA in Writing

Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to increasing access to our program for students from diverse backgrounds by increasing funding options for the emerging voices, and building an inclusive community through sustained dialogue and practice.

VCFA Diversity Committee

A college-wide committee composed of VCFA administrators, program faculty, and student representatives. This group is charged with addressing diversity topics at VCFA, providing resources, and intersecting with program committees as appropriate.

MFA in Writing Program Diversity Committee

A program committee composed of four student representatives, four faculty, the Program Director, Faculty Chair, and two VCFA Diversity Committee members.

MFA in Writing Diversity Student Caucus

The MFAW Diversity Student Caucus serves MFA in Writing students who self-identify as diverse, providing them with opportunities for connection and mentorship. The student-run caucus hosts residency events for all students and faculty with the intention of promoting a respectful, positive, and nurturing academic environment that captures the diverse nature of our community.

VCFA Reads

In order to further our conversation about these issues as a community, and as we pursue the mission of making our MFA in Writing community and conversation a more broadly inclusive one, we developed the “VCFA Reads” event to further the initiative in an intentional way.
