Assistant to the President

Status: Full-time, salary
Reports to: VCFA President

The Assistant to the President reports to the President and works closely with executive leadership to support and evolve a dynamic, renowned fine arts college. This position serves as a member of the President’s senior staff and as such job duties and activities deal with highly sensitive information and require a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. This position provides executive-level administrative support to both the President and Senior Staff. 

Major responsibilities include maintaining calendars, coordinating travel, screening visitors, and arranging conference calls and meetings. This position serves as the Academic Dean’s right hand on accreditation studies, as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees, and as liaison to external groups on behalf of the President, executive staff, and the College in general (e.g., City of Montpelier, Montpelier Alive, NEASC, NASAD, trade organizations, lawyers, architects, agencies, etc.). The Assistant to the President also assumes responsibility for communications on behalf of the Office of the President, provides the first line of communication for purposes of problem solving and troubleshooting, anticipates problems and questions, and makes recommendations to the President.

MFA in Writing Program Director

Status: Full-time, salary
Reports to: Academic Dean

We are seeking a candidate who will:

  • Manage the strategic direction, organization, and operations of program
  • Oversee and direct the student admission and enrollment process
  • Oversee student retention and progress through the program
  • Collaborate with the faculty in the faculty hiring, retention, and termination process
  • Supervise program staff and program office
  • Design and manage program budget, as well as other tasks

The Program Director is a managerial, administrative position reporting to the Academic Dean. The Program Director provides administrative leadership for the program, working closely with the Faculty Chair, who provides academic leadership through a system of faculty governance. The Program Director role is characterized by administrative experience, an entrepreneurial temperament, attention to detail, demonstrated budget management experience, and excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
