CONCERTS

VCFA hosts three different ensembles this winter, premiering pieces written by our MFA in Music Composition students that reflect a widely versatile cross-section of approaches to new music. The ensembles are:

  • Invoke quartet, featuring Nick Montopoli, violin and banjo; Zachariah Matteson, violin; Karl Mitze, viola and mandolin; Geoff Manyin, cello.
  • Mobius Percussion, featuring Mika Godbole, Mark DeMull, Shelby Blezinger-McCay, and Matt Witten.
  • Housewarming Project jazz trio, featuring Jeremy Siskind, piano; vocalist Nancy Harms; and Alex LoRe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax.

FILM and MEDIA MUSIC FESTIVAL

Sunday, Feb. 9, 8 pm, Noble Lounge
In visual media, music is often the secret partner in story-telling, embodying the internal states of the characters in the narrative. This event will feature a variety of approaches to the marriage of music to picture, as offered by VCFA students, faculty and alumni —from fiction films, to animation, video art, webisodes, documentaries, game scores, and jingles. The intent is to explore and celebrate the diversity of music-to-picture relationships.
