Join us on Friday September 9 for wine and poetry in Café Anna, as we welcome two of today’s most remarkable voices, faculty member Mary Ruefle, and visiting writer Michael Burkard.

Mary Ruefle’s latest book is Trances of the Blast (Wave Books, 2013). Madness, Rack, and Honey, a collection of her lectures, all of which were given at VCFA over the years, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award; her Selected Poems (Wave Books, 2010) won the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America.
She has won many awards for her work, including an NEA, a Whiting Award, a Guggenheim, and an Award in Literature from The American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Michael Burkard’s books of poetry include My Secret Boat (W. W. Norton), Entire Dilemma (Sarabande Books), Envelope of Night (Nightboat) and Unsleeping (Sarabande Books), among others. Twice he has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Foundation for the Arts. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Whiting Writer’s Prize.
He is Associate Professor of English at Syracuse University where he teaches in the MFA Program in Creative Writing.
