Martine received the Governor General’s Literary Award for Young People’s Literature – Text, for her novel Calvin published by Groundwood Books. From the citation of the peer jury (Polly Horvath, Y.S. Lee, and Don Aker): “Told in spare, beautiful prose, this transcendent exploration of reality and truth is funny, frightening and affirming. Calvin is an astonishing achievement.”
The award comes with a cash prize of $25,000.
WCYA Faculty Member Tim Wynne-Jones was a finalist for this year’s award as well. Tim has won the award twice previously. Congratulations to both!
