MFA in Writing announces new visiting faculty members

The MFA in Writing program is pleased to introduce four new visiting faculty members who will teach during the Winter-Spring Semester beginning December 28, 2017. 

Visiting FacultyThe visiting faculty members include: 

Ira Sukrungruang (upper left) is the author of the memoirs Southside Buddhist (2014) and Talk Thai: The Adventures of Buddhist Boy (2010), the short story collection The Melting Season (2016), and the poetry collection In Thailand It Is Night (2013). His collection of essays, Buddha’s Dog and other meditations, is forthcoming in 2018. See his full bio here

Adam McOmber (upper right) is the author of My House Gathers Desires: Stories (2017), The White Forest: A Novel (2012), and This New & Poisonous Air: Stories (2011). His work has appeared in Kenyon Review, Conjunctions, Fairy Tale Review and Diagram. He teaches English and Creative Writing at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. See his full bio here

Anthony Swofford (lower left) is the author of Jarhead: A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles (2003), which received the PEN/Martha Albrand Art of Memoir Award, and was adapted into a 2005 film directed by Sam Mendes. His other books include Exit A: A Novel (2007), and the memoir Hotels, Hospitals, and Jails (2012). His writing has appeared in Harper’s, The Guardian, Post Road, and The New York Times. Xu Xi 許素細 (lower right) is the author of twelve books, most recently a memoir Dear Hong Kong: An Elegy For A City (2017), the novel That Man In Our Lives (2016), and Interruptions (2016), a collaborative ekphrastic essay collection with photography by David Clarke.  Forthcoming are Insignificance: Stories of Hong Kong (May 2018) and This Fish is Fowl: Essays of Being. She is returning to VCFA this winter after having previously served as a former faculty member and faculty chair of the program. See her full bio here
