Carvell Wallace is a writer and editor based in Oakland, CA. His work on race, culture, sports, parenting and spirituality has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Pitchfork, The Guardian, ESPN The Magazine, Vice, and many others.

He was a regular music columnist at MTV News and his July 2017 profile of Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali was the cover story for GQ’s The America Issue. He is currently the head writer and host of Closer Than They Appear, a season-long news and essay podcast from Al Jazeera examining race in America.  He also co-hosts Mom And Dad Area Fighting, Slate’s parenting podcast. Additionally, he is the co-author, with Andre Iguodala, of The Sixth Man due out on the Penguin imprint Dutton in 2018.
