Ten mentorships for aspiring children’s authors and illustrators are being offered by We Need Diverse Books, a grassroots organization advocating the publication of more diverse literature for young readers. Writing for Children and Young Adults faculty member Will Alexander is one of the mentors for 2017.
The mentorship program matches upcoming authors and artists with award-winning children’s book creators for one year of individually-tailored support and feedback. In keeping with the organization’s broad definition of diversity, applications are invited from diverse authors and from any writer or illustrator whose manuscript features diverse main characters or subject matter. The mentorships are available in five categories: Picture Book Text, Middle Grade, Young Adult, Nonfiction, and Illustration. Will Alexander will be a Middle Grade mentor.
