ZoboiThe New York Times Book Review has added titles by Ibi Zoboi (’14) and Cassie Beasley (’13), both graduates from the MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults program, to their 2017 NYT Notable Children’s Books List.

Ibi Zoboi’s debut novel, American Street, is a National Book Award Finalist with five starred reviews. In it, she tells the story of a Haitian family navigating the US immigration system in search of their part of the “American Dream”. Ibi draws on personal experience in her novel, having immigrated to the US from Haiti as a young child. The New York Times calls the novel “self-assured, elegant and utterly captivating.”

In her second book, Tumble and Blue, New York Times Bestselling author Cassie Beasley tells the tale of a generations long curse and the descendants brave enough to challenge it. A Kirkus starred review calls Tumble and Blue "An original, highly engaging story about the power of friendship, family curses, and blessings–and what it means to be a hero."
