Martine Leavitt receives Governor General's Literary Award

MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults faculty member and alumna Martine Leavitt received the Governor General's Literary Award on November 30, 2016 from His Excellency, The Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

Martine Leavitt Receives Governor General's AwardMartine received the Governor General's Literary Award for Young People's Literature - Text, for her novel Calvin published by Groundwood Books. From the citation of the peer jury (Polly Horvath, Y.S. Lee, and Don Aker): "Told in spare, beautiful prose, this transcendent exploration of reality and truth is funny, frightening and affirming. Calvin is an astonishing achievement."

The award comes with a cash prize of $25,000.

WCYA Faculty Member Tim Wynne-Jones was a finalist for this year's award as well. Tim has won the award twice previously. Congratulations to both!
