Andrew Blauvelt

Andrew Blauvelt joined the spring Graphic Design residency to present a public lecture titled: "Designer as Author, Editor, and Curator."

Andrew Blauvelt is Director of the Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, which organizes and hosts exhibitions, presents programs, and collects objects in the areas of modern and contemporary art, architecture, craft, and design.

From 1998–2015, Blauvelt held several positions at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. From 2013-2015 he served as Senior Curator, Design, Research, and Publishing, where he supervised the print and online publishing programs, oversaw the archives and library study collections, and curated programs, projects, and exhibitions in contemporary and modern architecture and design.

From 2010-2013 he served as the Walker’s Chief of Communications and Audience Engagement and from 1998–2010 he served as Design Director, developing and overseeing the brand identity of the organization. He has also served as a curator of architecture and design since 1998.
