Dain Olsen

Dain Olsen has served a leading role in the establishment of “media arts education,” the “5th arts discipline,” at local, state and national levels, through the development of distinct standards, curricula, programming, community, and theoretical descriptors. 

As the Media Arts Writing Chair for the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards, he led the development of the National Core Media Arts Standards and model assessments for K-12 education. He now serves a lead role in the development of this national educational community.

He led the establishment of media arts in Los Angeles Unified School District, including the development and administration of 14 media arts programs at middle and high schools. He serves on California’s arts education CREATE CA task force for 21st C. Instruction and Curriculum. Dain is experienced in the areas of educational technology integration; transdisciplinary, project, and design-based learning; arts education strategy and policy; and emerging digital literacies.

He consults, conducts trainings, writes, and instructs in the areas of creativity, technology, culture, and learning. Dain is an intermedia artist in video, sound, installation, sculpture, performance, and interactivity.
